The Secret is Out

DETECTIVE  STORY OF THE YEAR !

THE SECRET VIKING by Martin Myers

now available in a Kindle Edition at Amazon.com.

THE SECRET VIKING a detective story of many dimensions

It is literary. The detective is a literary scholar and far too clever for his own good.

It is amusing and may even be funny. Many readers report laughing out loud, not only while reading but also while recovering from the book’s after-effects and sometimes waking up in the middle of the night laughing hysterically.

It is a mystery that looks like it’s going to be a whodunit? but turns out to be a who is it? Why is that?

It is a mutli-genre puzzle, in fact, many puzzles. Just when you figure you have it figured out, you find you haven’t. When you think you finally have the answer, what you have is the question.

It is set all over the world. And in other worlds. And jumps all over the past, the present, the future.

It is an unlikely tale. The protagonist is a 1300-year-old Viking poet warrior. And while constantly writing, he keeps dissembling, running off, shedding families and frequently changing costumes.

It is supposed to be fiction but it may be a true story and the secret Viking may be your next door neighbour. Keep a wary eye out for him.

It has a suspicious, smart-ass dog in it who reads and writes and is a central character.

It includes, at no extra cost, assorted aphorisms, rancid rants, insufferable quotes, vile verse, short stories, adult fairy tales, playlets, screenplaylets, Old Norse History 101 and even a creative writing seminar.

SecretViking-cover Marcus DRAFTEarly reviews from Amazon.ca:

“It is funny and witty and profound, and only Marty Myers could have written it… very well done.” – Marq deVilliers

“There are more twists in this plot than there are in a cheese danish! A wonderful read. I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a literary workout.”  – first Amazon customer review

“Another great read! I’ve read a few by this author and really like his style – smart and funny. A perfect book to curl up with on a January evening.” – another Amazon.ca review

“Just finished reading this delightful book. It had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions and really has a wonderful story line with lots of twists and turns and plays on words galore. Martin Myers at his best!”

And a few reviews from Amazon.com:

“Terrific read! Loved this book! The premise is highly innovative and very interesting. Well written, and I found myself laughing out loud at some point in just about every chapter. Martin Myers got me on the first page with the first sentence. Best $7 I’ve spent in a long time.”

“Difficult to put down. I found this book hilarious. It does require concentrated reading time; it is not a book you can ‘skim’ through. It really made me think.”
“What a literary romp! I loved the book. The question that hits you right off is: Where is the author going to go with this ridiculous premise of a 1300-year-old Viking? What opportunities will that open up in the writing? And the book does not disappoint! I especially enjoyed the back and forth between fiction and truth. You can even look at The Secret Viking as a meditation on aging and death, leavened by Myers’s amazing humor into something wonderfully entertaining. Last but not least, dog people will love the important character Satch.”

THE SECRET VIKING, a new novel by Martin Myers,
is now available in a Kindle Edition at Amazon.

Researching deceased novelist Helga Rittersporn, literary scholar August Dallou discovers that Helga’s Polish novelist husband, Myroj Krupinsky, who had abandoned her a few years before her death, was actually a 1300-year-old Viking warrior poet, Thorsten the Rood, who’d stopped aging after a blow to his head at age 44. To guard his secret,Thorsten had learned to write and run, practicing his craft all over the world. Now, after 1254 years of hiding behind a series of cover-up identities, the 1300-year-old Viking walks in secret among us today.

Recognizing Thorsten as a trove of literature and history, Dallou turns literary detective, determined to find the Viking and persuade him to share his thirteen centuries of knowledge. As Dallou chases Thorsten through numerous identities, the secret Viking’s tale spins out in glimpses of his protracted life as poet, scribe, novelist and playwright, between episodes of Dallou’s persistent hunt. In the end, Viking author and learned scholar collide in a surprising conclusion.
